For sale is my Gibson Custom ‘Crimson’ Byrdland from 2014. If you’re reading this, you probably already know that the Byrdland is based on Gibson’s flagship L5, but with a slimmer body (about 2.25"), and a shorter scale (23.5"). It has all the top appointments such as fully carved spruce top, and fully carved maple back. It has twin humbuckers, an ebony finger board with mother of pearl inlays, gold hardware and multiple binding on headstock, neck, f-holes, and body.
The Crimson Division of Gibson’s custom shop operated between 2012 and about 2017 (for archtops) and was tasked with producing the top possible quality from the best woods. Certainly the woods are very spectacular, and the fit and finish are of the highest order.
I imported this guitar from South Korea in 2021 where it had originally been bought by a collector who did not play it. It now shows very minor signs of use on the frets, but has no dings, scratches, or dents. It is always kept in its case, and has always been treated with respect. It is in close to mint condition.
The guitar is currently strung with Thomastik 'George Benson' 14-55 gauge flatwounds, which give a very rich jazz tone. They do not feel overly heavy because of the shorter scale length.
I am only selling because I have recently acquired both an L5 and a Super 400, and can't really justify keeping three top end Gibson archtops!
It comes in its original Custom Shop case, with all paperwork, including the Certificate of Authenticity. If you need it couriered, it will be delivered in its original Gibson packing carton.
